Huawei Unveils Mate XT Ultimate: The World’s First Tri-Fold Smartphone
HUAWEI Mate XT ULTIMATE DESIGN China Sale 2025 Huawei has introduced the Mate XT Ultimate, the world’s first smartphone with a tri-fold design. This innovative device can unfold into a large 10.2-inch display, fold into a 7.9-inch tablet-like mode, or fold further into a compact 6.4-inch phone, offering remarkable versatility in one sleek package.

A Slim and Sturdy Design
Despite the complex folding design, the Mate XT Ultimate is surprisingly thin at just 3.6 mm when fully opened and weighs only 298 grams, including a sizable camera setup borrowed from the Mate X5. The phone features an advanced hinge system inspired by China’s Tiangong space station. This hinge uses dual-track bending technology with durable materials to ensure a seamless fold without gaps.

Stunning 3K OLED Display
The phone sports a single, flexible LTPO OLED screen with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and support for 10-bit color, which means it can display up to 10 billion colors. The screen resolution changes depending on how you fold it:
-
Fully unfolded: 3,184 × 2,232 pixels (10.2-inch, 16:11 aspect ratio)
-
Partially folded: 2,232 × 2,048 pixels (7.9-inch)
-
Fully folded: 2,232 × 1,008 pixels (6.4-inch)
Huawei calls this a “3K” display, positioned between 2K and 4K resolution, and enhances the viewing experience with AI-powered image optimization.

High-End Camera Setup
The Mate XT Ultimate combines camera technology from Huawei’s Mate X5 and P60 Pro models:
-
Main camera: 50MP sensor with phase detection autofocus (PDAF), optical image stabilization (OIS), and a variable aperture (f/1.4 to f/4.0)
-
Telephoto lens: 12MP with 5.5x optical zoom
-
Ultra-wide lens: 12MP sensor
-
Laser autofocus for accurate focusing
-
Front camera: 8MP punch-hole selfie camera on the main display, usable when folded

Performance and Smart Features
While Huawei hasn’t revealed the chipset details yet, the phone comes with 16GB of RAM and runs on HarmonyOS 4.2, their own operating system based on Android’s open-source version but without Google services. The device includes the latest Xiaoyi voice assistant (also known as Celia internationally) and offers smart features such as:
-
Voice-to-text conversion
-
Real-time translation of documents
-
Automatic split-screen for multitasking
-
Intelligent photo editing tools
Multiple Folding Modes for Productivity
Huawei highlights three main ways to use the device:
-
Single-screen mode for everyday tasks
-
Dual-screen mode for browsing and reading
-
Triple-screen mode for multitasking, work, or study
The large display helps with apps like email, finance management, video playback, and various AI-driven features.
Battery and Charging
The Mate XT Ultimate is powered by a 5,600mAh battery made of three silicon-carbide composite cells. Charging options include:
-
66W wired fast charging
-
50W wireless charging
-
Reverse charging at 7.5W (wireless) and 5W (wired)
Connectivity and Satellite Features
The phone supports dual-way satellite communication, but this feature is only available in China through the Tiantong satellite network operated by China Telecom.
Design and Pricing
Available in Black and Red, the phone features stylish gold accents around the hinges, edges, and camera area, giving it a premium look.
Prices in China are as follows:
-
256GB version: ¥19,999 (around $2,800 / €2,550)
-
512GB version: ¥21,999 (around $3,100 / €2,800)
-
1TB version: ¥23,999 (around $3,400 / €3,100)
Availability
Currently, the Mate XT Ultimate is exclusive to the Chinese market. Since Huawei hasn’t released a foldable phone internationally since the Mate X3 nearly 18 months ago, it’s unlikely this model will be launched globally. A simpler version doesn’t seem to be planned either, as this phone clearly targets a high-end, niche audience.
